Lent Devotional – One Step Closer Every Day
Spend a few minutes every day, reading, meditating, writing and praying with God so that you can take one step closer to Jesus every day.
Sunday – Luke 15:11-32 – Read the story of the Prodigal son. Pick out the parts that speak to you. Spend some time really focusing on the characters in the story. With whom do you most closely identify?
Monday – Psalm 28:1-9 – The Psalmist refers to God as his “rock.” Spend some time today focused on the times in your life when God was your “rock” or when God provided others to be that “rock” for you. Write a note to someone who has been a “rock” for you.
Tuesday – Matthew 18:10-14 -How does it make you feel that God sees you like God sees that lost sheep? You are worth searching for. You are worth celebrating! Write a note to someone who might feel lost.
Wednesday – Ephesians 4:17-32 – We are all in need of God’s forgiveness and the good news is that God has already forgiven us. Write a note to someone who has forgiven you or someone you need to forgive.
Thursday – Psalm 103:1-22 – The character of God is the character of justice and grace. Spend time today thanking God for grace and asking God for the courage to be an instrument of his justice. Write a note to a person or organization that is focused on social justice in the world.
Friday – 1 Peter 4:1-11 – Jesus gave his life for us so that we can live for him. What does it mean to you to live your life for God? Write a note to someone whose life you admire.
Saturday – Isaiah 53:1-12 – God’s love is demonstrated most clearly in Jesus’ sacrifice for us. What are you willing to sacrifice? What do you think God might be asking you to sacrifice? Write a note to someone who is a giver.
Family Focus – Do a craft or piece of artwork that glorifies God. Tell your family about what you created. Bring it to the church and put it on display in the Art Show!
