Lent Devotional – One Step Closer Every Day
Spend a few minutes every day, reading, meditating, writing and praying with God so that you can take one step closer to Jesus every day.
Sunday – Luke 15:11-32 -Re-read the story of the Prodigal Son. Now that you have spent this season focused on this story. How does this story apply to your life and your faith journey?
Monday –Luke 19:28-48 – Why do you think this passage has so many different emotions such as celebration, sadness, anger? How do you think Jesus’ emotions mirror our emotions and the emotions of God? Write a note to someone with whom you can share your emotions.
Tuesday –John 13:1-38 – Jesus demonstrates his love by washing the feet of the disciples, even the ones who would leave and betray him. What does this mean about how we are to serve others? Write a note to someone who demonstrated sacrificial love to you.
Wednesday –Luke 22:39-62 – When Jesus was arrested his best friend didn’t stay with him and denied him. How does this make God’s promise to never leave you or forsake you even more meaningful? Write a note to some who has stuck by you.
Thursday –Luke 22:63-23:25 – Jesus was bounced around from one sham trial to another. Think about a time when you felt unjustly judged. How did it make you feel about yourself and about those who were judging you? Write a note to someone who you trust.
Friday –Luke 23:26-56 – It looked like all was lost, and evil had won. Jesus was dead. Think about a time when you felt like all was lost and there was no hope. Write a note to someone who gives you hope.
Saturday –Matthew 27:45-66 – another perspective on Jesus’ death and burial. Why do you think the guards were so struck by Jesus’ death (v. 54)? Write a note to someone who is in need of healing.
