Lent Devotional – One Step Closer Every Day
Spend a few minutes every day, reading, meditating, writing and praying with God so that you can take one step closer to Jesus every day.
Sunday – Luke 15:11-32 –Re-read the story of the Prodigal Son. Focus this week on the oldest son who stayed home. Spend some time thinking about his journey, what was going through his mind and how he must have been feeling.
Monday –Matthew 5:33-37 –What do you think this passage is telling you about your word, your promises and your integrity? Think about times when you lived this well and times that you didn’t. Write a note to someone who kept a promise.
Tuesday – Genesis 9:1-17 –God made a promise to Noah and to all humanity and sealed that promise with the sign of the rainbow. Think about the similarities and differences between God’s promises and your promises. Write a note to God.
Wednesday – 2 Corinthians 1:18-22 –This passage tells us that every promise that God has ever made came true in Jesus. Spend some time thanking God for keeping God’s promises. Write a note to someone who broke a promise.
Thursday – Numbers 23:13-26 –Verse 19 tells us that God never lies and always keeps God’s word. How would that change the way we read the Bible and pray if we really believed that? Write a note to someone you can trust completely.
Friday – Matthew 24:1-35–Many of God’s promises are comforting and encouraging but some are scary and painful. God doesn’t promise that life will always be easy, but God promises to be with us. Write a note to someone who stands by you in the hard times.
Saturday – Ecclesiastes 5:1-7 –As a follower of Jesus our words and promises should reflect who God is. Think about how it affects God when we break our promises to others. Write a note to someone you’ve hurt.
Family Focus –Give a toy that is still nice but you do not use anymore to someone else or a donation center.
