The Tent of Meeting
Jul 15, 2018 • Rev. Dr. John Whitaker • Theme: Anniversary, Presence of God, Peace, Sabbath
The tabernacle is set up at Shiloh. The tabernacle is the tent of meeting—God is enthroned on earth in the tabernacle. Shiloh becomes a place where the presence of God is known. God and people meet at the tent during a time of Sabbath. When war ceases and the Israelites set up a place for God to speak to them, they inherit the Promised Land. Shiloh is an interesting word whose exact definition is uncertain. Most likely, Shiloh means a place of peace or tranquility, a place of rest. In time, it came to be associated with the Messiah, meaning the peaceful one. Years later, God pitched God’s tent among us in Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.
