Our Denomination

Shiloh is a United Methodist Church. What does that mean?

The Sacraments are open to all who wish to be close to God through our Savior, Jesus Christ.  All who have not been baptized are welcome to baptism, and all are welcome at our communion table. We invite you to join us in building a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ with our community here at Shiloh UMC.
The main item to know about Sacraments is that they are open to all who wish to be close to God through our Savior Jesus Christ.  All are welcome for baptism if they have not been already baptized, and all are welcome at our communion table.

Our Vision and Mission

The vision of Shiloh is to seek and share after God’s gift of oneness.

What we mean by this is that, despite our disagreements on issues that affect all of us, we seek to be a community within God’s grace.  We seek out God’s direction together and we seek to share God’s gifts with the world as the Body of Christ.
The way we do this is with our mission:
The Mission of Shiloh United Methodist Church through the Spirit is to glorify God, develop disciples of Jesus Christ, and change the world.

Our Beliefs

JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is at the center of everything. We believe that Jesus is the only one who can reconcile us to God. Jesus lived a sinless and exemplary life, died on the cross in our place, and rose again to defeat the power of death and empower us for life. We believe that Jesus Christ will return as He promised.

THE TRINITY

We believe in one eternal God, the Creator of all things. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God’s grace is primary in the United Methodist Church, meaning that God is totally loving and completely holy.

THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative, and applicable to our everyday lives.

THE SEPARATION

We believe that sin has separated each of us from God and that God’s grace is enough to reconcile us to God.

THE ANSWER TO SIN – GOD’S GRACE

We believe that God invites all into a deeper relationship and that this grace is active in everyone's life, even before they are aware of God’s presence in the world and in their own life.  We call this invitation by God Prevenient Grace.

We believe that God deeply desires to be in relationship with everyone and invites us constantly into that relationship.  When we become aware of God, repent of our sin, and deeply desire to follow Jesus Christ in our lives, God’s grace reconciles us to God and overcomes the separation caused by sin.  We call this reconnection to God Justifying Grace.

We believe that it is the responsibility of every believer to spend a lifetime listening for God’s call in our lives, to work to become more holy (closer to God) by acts of piety, which include worship, prayer, study, and other Spiritual Disciplines.  We also believe it is the responsibility of every believer to act as Jesus’ hands and feet in the world by acts of service – feeding the hungry, offering the thirsty something to drink, welcoming the stranger, clothing the naked, caring for the sick, and visiting the imprisoned (Matthew 25:31-46).  We call this ongoing work of the Spirit in our lives, Sanctifying Grace.

THE CHURCH

We believe that the Church is God’s primary plan to bring about the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.  The church is primarily about the people, and as such, we value people and their connection with God.
